Young Learner English Courses
We understand the concern a parent has when sending their child on a language course. They want to be reassured they will have a warm welcome, a caring host and a safe and comfortable home to stay in. They also want the learning environment to be relaxed and friendly and not involve lots of other children speaking their native language out of class.
We have 20 years experience in placing Young Learners with our carefully selected homestay tutors. We aim to provide a very personalised service for our Young Learners. We accept children on our English courses aged between 14 and 17. We do ask that they are motivated enough to cope with a one-to-one course and emotionally mature enough to stay away from home.
Our courses are also ideal for children coming to the UK prior to boarding school or University. Our host tutors can provide an excellent cultural immersion and help out in exeat and half terms too.
Lessons
Teaching English to teenagers is a skill if the classes are to be interesting and entertaining. Each course is designed to provide a well balanced English course covering all the skills - reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation at the students level of English. We would recommend 3 to 4 hours per day maximum. As they are living in the home of their tutor they have more contact hours and have many opportunities to absorb the language as they are immersed in the language and culture. They have the opportunity to practice what they have learnt in class throughout the day. If they have particular needs eg Baccalaureate or Matura English exams then we request that they bring specific materials with them to use in class.
Out of Class Activities
Our Young Learners English 1 to 1 course involves a supplement on our standard General English course to cover the extra responsibility and the extra activities involved. We include 3 afternoon activities as well as a full day weekend excursion for courses two weeks or longer.
InTuition Languages recommend that young students bring a minimum of £100/€100 per week pocket money to spend (more if they want to do a lot of shopping). The supplement covers the cost of all "reasonable" entrance fees eg cinema , swimming pools etc . Normal excursions are to places such as museums, working mills or castles; a wide range of sporting activities; cinema or ice skating or bowling; visits to historic towns country houses. If an excursion is requested that involves a substantial admission cost (eg Official Sightseeing tours or a Theme park or mainline train fares) the student must pay for themselves. This is always agreed in advance.
We organise airport transfers to and from the host tutors so that the students are always in a safe and secure environment.
We created some activity programmes for locations Broadstairs, Bournemouth and Stratford Upon Avon, for the Summer of 2012:
We look after your child - a happy and secure child will enjoy their course more.
J2J - English Summer Programme for Juniors
In the summer we offer a special course for this age group, where students of the same level but two different nationalities share the lessons and the host tutor family. This programme is available only on set dates in Southern England and the Heart of England. It is suitable for students with a minimum of two years English up to Upper Intermediate (not Advanced) level. Please contact us for more information.
As we are so flexible, our courses are very popular with whole families, we have a few host tutors who can accommodate and teach.
We also accept parents with children on our normal courses.
