Working with InTuition Languages
InTuition Languages is a network run by teachers, for teachers. Established in 1990, we are a small, dedicated team based in London. We provide a full range of support and training for our homestay English teachers. We take time to get to know all our host tutors on a personal level so that we can provide them with the type of student that most suits them. Some of our host tutors have been with us since the beginning, coming and going through different stages of their working life. On our courses, a student from overseas stays in your family home and receives one-to- one or two-to- one English tuition and joins in family life for, on average, a two week course.
InTuition Languages was the first Homestay English company to be British Council accredited.
This means that the school complies with the high standards set by the UK’s main ELT regulatory body. We are also members of English UK. These bodies’ regular inspections ensure that our students are assured of the highest standards when taking an InTuition course.
InTuition Languages is also affiliated to International House World Organisation. A network of language schools, which for over 60 years, has been the market leader in teacher training and English language teaching. Many of InTuition’s resources and teacher training have been developed by IH, and we are in constant communication with the network.
We recruit high calibre teachers and encourage Continued Professional Development through online workshops, seminars, bi-annual conferences and face-to- face meetings of teachers in London. Whatever stage you are at in your teaching career, from newly qualified to highly experienced, we listen to your contributions and take pride in nurturing talent. We genuinely value your input.
As an InTuition Host Tutor you become part of the family. Through our online Availability system, you choose when you work. We don’t prescribe a set coursebook or methodology at our school: you have the freedom to teach following whichever method suits you and your student’s needs and learning style.
We are always available should you need help or assistance on any matter – from student placements, to hosting, to teaching and access to resources. We also regularly visit all of our teachers – it’s the best way to get to know each other! We not only provide you with screened students, selected according to your preferences, but also a full range of course books which you can borrow through freepost return, a staff discount at a leading EFL bookshop, CPD opportunities, access to an extensive online resource bank, and support and advice from an experienced team.

InTuition Languages meet the needs of an increasing number of teachers who require flexibility, allowing them to work from home, when they want to. Whether EFL teachers already working as freelancers, or a qualified modern languages teacher free in the holidays, our hosts enjoy the same high levels of support and guidance from our experienced Directors of Studies and bookings team.
It sounds intensive – and it can be – but it is also enjoyable and rewarding for both the student and the host tutor. It also pays well. The average length of course is one to four weeks and the standard format is for 15, 20, 25 or 30 hour lessons per week plus full-board accommodation for the student. The student benefits from receiving quality one-to-one tuition and also being assured of an educated host family, open to foreign visitors and offering a comfortable and hospitable environment.
We are an equal opportunity employer: we welcome people from all background and recognise that InTuition’s success lies in our ability to create an inclusive environment where everyone can realise their potential. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all our homestay teachers to share this commitment.
If you feel that home language tuition suits your lifestyle and would like to join our team, then please complete our on-line application form or call 020 7739 4411 during office hours.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Working with InTuition Languages enables teachers to work on a freelance basis but still receive professional support.
Teaching Business English and English for Exams, such as the IELTS, Cambridge First Certificate (FCE), Advanced (CAE) and Proficiency (CPE), are both popular options.
This will depend on where you live and how flexible you are on accepting different types of students throughout the year.
Our busiest period is July and August. We like to reward host teachers who work with us over this period with priority o for out of season bookings.
Our most popular locations are: London; Oxford; Cambridge; Brighton as well as Manchester and Edinburgh. We do work hard to break these requests for “traditional” locations as we believe there are some fantastic places to stay which are off the beaten EFL track.
• references will be followed up
• all gaps in CVs must be explained satisfactorily
• proof of identity and qualifications will be required
• reference requests will ask specifically whether there is any reason that they should not be employed in situations where they have responsibility for, or substantial access to, persons under 18
• appropriate Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) or Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance will be required prior to confirmation of appointment.
In addition to receiving individual tuition, students want to join in your everyday life and experiences, so it is vital that you are willing to include them in your activities – however mundane they may seem to you! You will likely also want to take them to local places of interest (students are expected to pay for all entrance fees, etc, themselves, but are not expected to share petrol costs when you take them somewhere by car). Many students specify that they want to pursue a particular sport during their course. We always do our best to take your own interests and hobbies into consideration when placing a student with you so that you can enjoy your leisure activities together.
We currently offer our homestay English teachers free online teacher training sessions, in addition to the two International House World Organisation Online Teacher Conferences each year (May and November).

1. The Cambridge CELTA – (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults)
2. The Trinity Cert TESOL – (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
Both can be completed as full-time, 4-week intensive courses or on a part-time basis. Both follow a set syllabus designed to cover all aspects of ELT and are externally moderated and assessed.
