Here are the answers to our most common questions. But if you have any question you need help with them please just email us by clicking here. ![]() 1. What is the difference at InTuition Languages? We have the reputation for offering high quality teaching, comfortable accommodation and combine these with hospitality, making your programme memorable. As an affiliate of International House, we also provide first class educational support. At InTuition we treat you as an individual and carefully match you to your teacher. This we can do as we have personally visited all our teachers and their homes. ![]() 2. How do you choose my teacher? We select your teacher based on the information you provide us with. We always start to look for the most appropriate host teacher for you in your first choice of location. However we believe that the right teacher is ultimately more important than the location so you may not always get your first choice of destination. We then send you a recommendation, which is a detailed description of the teacher, their qualifications and experience, their partner and their occupation and a description of other members of the family, their home, your room and the location. We will also tell you the cost of a welcome service from the most convenient airport. ![]() 3. What happens if you cannot find me a suitable teacher? We are nearly always successful in meeting your requirements and have a great record of success in placing students. However, in the unusual circumstances where we are unable to place you, we will make a refund of all any deposit paid. ![]() 4. Is there anything I should do before I arrive? Please write to your teacher to introduce yourself to maximise the benefits of your programme. If there is time the teacher will always reply in writing or by email. ![]() 5. Is there anything I need to tell InTuition with regards to my travel arrangements? You must inform us of travel details at least one week before you arrive. If no travel details are given then there is no guarantee that the teacher will be in when you arrive. Students are expected to arrive on the Sunday afternoon/evening before their course begins and leave on the Saturday morning the week their course finishes. ![]() 6. What happens when I arrive? If you have arranged to be welcomed at the airport by the teacher you will be met and transported to their home. The teacher is experienced in making overseas guests feel at home and will explain all about the home and the meal and lesson times and things to do in the area. You will be made to feel comfortable so that total immersion is enjoyable rather than hard work. On arrival you will be shown your room, the home, the local area and given information on the places of interest. Courses are from SUNDAY EVENING to SATURDAY MORNING. The Sunday evening is spent with the teacher listening to the student and noting the areas for attention. Lessons are from Monday to Friday. The first session on Monday is spent assessing your level and discussing your needs for learning the language, before designing the course to achieve your objectives. On your first day of a one week course (first or second day of a ![]() 7. What happens out of lessons? Students play a full part in the life of the family. If you are not directly participating in family life socially or culturally, you are at all times given the opportunity for activities. The idea is never to let you feel isolated or bored. ![]() 8. What if there is a problem... In extreme cases and where there is genuine complaint from the student, we will try and change a homestay immediately, from one day to the next. Changes are always made quickly and discreetly. Please be aware that sometimes it takes a few days to settle into the local way of life, particularly if 'jet-lagged' from a long journey. ![]() 9. Why do I need Travel Insurance? This is required for your own security and peace of mind as well as a pre-requisite for us. Travel insurance offers you cover for medical insurance whilst staying with us, loss or damage to your or your host teacher's property and of course covers you in the unlikely event you have to cancel your course. ![]() 10. What do I bring? Always bring any materials you wish us to work on or for us to help you with. You are the most important "resource" for the teacher. We can base the course around your needs and interests, so the more information you bring the better. In addition, a good dictionary is very useful. Regarding clothing: informal casual clothes are normal. Sometimes your teacher may ask that you bring smart evening wear if they have plans to go out to a formal event. If you are coming to the UK or Ireland it is advisable to bring some warm clothes and the obligatory rain gear for most of the year - unfortunately! ![]() 11. How much progress will I make in 25 hours of one-to-one? Answer: "How long is a piece of string?" This is different for each person. We will set clear objectives for your course so that we concentrate on specific areas of language where you can make progress. It is generally accepted that 50 hours of one-to-one tuition plus homework and exposure to the language, should enable you to progress from one level (eg. Low intermediate) to the next (Intermediate). |
