Galway

ireland_1Galway is located on the west side of Ireland and it is the fastest growing city of the country. The city is most famous for its castles, ruins, and landscapes. But Galway also has a thriving night life, with festivals, theatres, nightclubs, and pubs, and therefore Galway offers excitement to people of all ages. Irish culture at its best!

Cork

ireland_2Cork is the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland and is is located in the south of Ireland. The city centre of Cork can be compared with the city centres of (North) Ireland’s largest cities Dublin and Belfast. In 2005 Cork was Europe’s Capital of Culture. In and around Cork, lots of beautiful ruins, castles, landscapes, and cathedrals can be found. Cork is also a major Irish seaport.

... that every 6th of January it is Ireland’s traditional ‘girls’s night out’?

ireland_3... that one of Ireland’s most famous historical persons, St. Patrick, was not really Irish, but British? Irish raiders took St. Patrick prisoner and he was brought to Ireland as a shepherd. St. Patrick escaped, but then had a vision from God telling him to return to Ireland as a missionary.

How to get there

International airports relatively close to Cork are, of course, Cork Airport, but also Shannon Airport, which is just north of Limerick, on the west coast. International airports close to Cork are Cork Airport, Shannon Airport, and Ireland West Airport Knock, in County Mayo, in the north west. Of course, in Dublin is an international airport as well.
