Five Easy Steps to Maximise Progress
- Relax! We want you to enjoy your course. Your teacher and family are looking forward to your visit. They will want you to feel at home from the moment you arrive and will treat you as a member of the family. We will telephone you on the first day and the teacher will leave you to speak to us privately. If you have any problem then, or at any time during your stay, tell us and we will help you - you can ring us any time.
- Get in touch with your teacher now. They need to know about your arrival time so they can be at home to welcome you.(Please note that without your arrival time the host cannot be expected to wait at home all day.) They also want to know more about you and your interests and your goals for the course so they can prepare some interesting materials for you to work on together.
- Remember to bring any special materials with you, e.g. your company's promotional literature. You will also need a good dictionary, and your teacher will be interested to see photos of your family and home. As an optional task, prepare a short spoken presentation (about two minutes) to give to your teacher at the start of your course. Choose a topic familiar to you (e.g. your family, your job, your home, what your company does, why you need English now).
- Remember to speak only in English all the time you are on your course, so that you are totally immersed in the language and culture. This way you will improve much faster. Meals with your teacher and family are an important part of this experience, as you can practise what you have learnt in a relaxed atmosphere.
- We have chosen a family compatible with your interests so that you can enjoy spending leisure time together. Remember that the cost of your course includes all your meals and tuition, but not the cost of any trips or excursions. (We recommend at least £70 per week pocket money expenses). If you wish your teacher, or another family member, to accompany you on cultural excursions or sporting activities, you are expected to pay all expenses, including entrance fees and sports charges, for both of
